Overview

Issues with GPU falling off the bus when being tested

Affected Systems

MiTAC B7129F83AV8E-4HR-N

Symptom:

GPU falling off the bus when DCGMI or any GPU test is being ran on the system.

Pre-requisite

System needs to be rebooted

Solution:

Boot into the BIOS and disable PCI-E ASPM Support for both Socket 0 and Socket 1.

1. Reboot into BIOS

Reboot the system and access BIOS by pressing Del or F2 when prompted

2. Navigate to Advanced -> Socket Configuration

3. Navigate to Socket Configuration

4. Disable PCI-E Active State Power Management (ASPM)

For all ports under Socket 0, in this example from Port 1A to 5D (may vary for your system). Set PCI-E ASPM Support to Disabled. Repeat for all ports

Repeat for Socket 1

Prevention Tips, Maintenance, and Best Practice

  • PCI Express Active State Power Management (PCI-E ASPM) is a power-saving feature defined in the PCI Express (PCIe) specification that reduces link power consumption when devices are idle.  This reduces overall system power consumption (important for laptops, servers at scale, embedded systems).
