When encountering an X.509 certificate error with the message "integrity: Problem loading X.509 certificate -126," it can prevent access to tty/GUI mode and the command line login prompt on Rocky Linux 9.3. This guide provides steps to bypass this message and successfully boot Rocky Linux 9.3.
Note about this solution
This error message has been confirmed by Asus to be benign and can be safely ignored. This solution was specifically tested on an ASUS PRO WS WRX80E-SAGE SE motherboard by disabling VGA output using a physical switch. Please be aware that this won't entirely get rid of the message, however it WILL allow the system to boot successfully. Follow the steps outlined below to implement this workaround and bypass the X.509 certificate error.
Step 1: Turn off power
Make sure the turn off power before performing the task. You will also want to disconnect the power cable from the motherboard. Lastly, press the power button 2-3 times with the power cable disconnected. This will ensure any latent power on the board has been discharged.
Step 2: Identify the Motherboard and VGA Switch
Locate the physical VGA switch on the ASUS PRO WS WRX80E-SAGE SE motherboard (see above image). By default the switch is enabled.
Step 3: Disable VGA Output
Before booting the system, ensure that the VGA output is disabled using the physical switch on the motherboard and disconnect the VGA cable.
Step 4: Connect to GPU
Connect the display monitor cable (likely DisplayPort or HDMI) to the primary GPU.
Step 5: Reboot the System
You can now reconnect power and turn your system on.
Step 6: Check for Successful Boot
Monitor the boot process to see if the system successfully loads into tty/GUI mode without displaying the X.509 certificate error. As long as you get to a login prompt, you're all set!
