Changing Tyan Default Video Output Source

Document Scope

This document provides instructions for adjusting the BIOS settings on a Tyan system to switch the default active video device from the onboard graphics to an off-board graphics card. This process ensures seamless utilization of the preferred graphics hardware configuration for optimal visual output.

Introduction

The default setting on the most Tyan systems are set to use on-board video.  If you plan on using an add-on video card it is necessary to change the BIOS settings so the off-board video will be the primary display.

This setting applies to the following Tyan barebones chassis:

B7109F77DV14HR

B7105F48TV4HR-2T-N

Tyan Default BIOS Setting

Using Onboard Video for primary display

  1. Platform Configuration Menu
  2. Miscellaneous Configuration
  3. Active Video: [Onboard Device]

Screen Shot for each section of the BIOS setting that need change:

Access system's BIOS by pressing F2 or DEL at startup.

Navigate to the Platform Configuration Menu.

Scroll Down to the Miscellaneous Configuration section.

Select Active Video.

At the Active Video Device:

Select Onboard Device for using the Onboard VGA as your primary display.

Select Offboard Device for using add-on GPU as your primary display

After making the selection, navigate to Save & Exit Menu.

Select Save Changes and Reset to save the setting and restart the system.

Select Yes to save the setting and restart the system.

Note

Do not go into the device menu and disable the Onboard VGA.  If the add-on GPU is removed and this setting is set, the system will not default back to the VGA port on the system board.
