This article guides users through creating a bootable USB using Rufus for flashing the BIOS on any system, with Supermicro used as an example. It provides clear, step-by-step instructions for preparing the USB drive and initiating the BIOS flashing process.

Prerequisites

You will need a flash drive that can be formatted/erased for use with the BIOS update.

Step 1: Download the BIOS update file

Visit your motherboard manufacturer website and download the latest BIOS files.

Step 2: Create bootable USB drive

Using Rufus you can format your drive to be formatted FAT32 which is generally necessary for these flash executables. Windows can no longer format FAT32 which is why we suggest the third-party application. Be sure to mirror the settings shown in the following picture.

Step 3: Extract the BIOS files

From the .zip file you downloaded in step 1, extract the update into the newly created bootable USB drive from step 2.

Step 4: Boot into the USB containing the BIOS flash file

Step 5: Initiate Update

Navigate to the correct directory containing the BIOS flash file, and type in the command provided to you by your Exxact Support Technician. You can also find the necessary command in the chassis/motherboard manual.

i.e. FLASH.BAT X10DRG7.726

Step 6: Finish

It is important to let the BIOS update process without interruption to ensure the system recovers correctly. Any interruptions could potentially cause your system to become unrecoverable.
