[IPMI] Supermicro IPMI BMC reset to reset fan sensors

Document Scope

This article will provide some information on how to resolve an issue with the Supermicro IPMI BNC showing missing information for fan sensors.

Missing Fan Info

All the fan sensors report missing information, and will show as warnings in IPMI.

Resolution

For sensor issues like these, you can reset BMC without losing the configuration, although it warns otherwise.

Step 1: IPMI → BMC Reset → 'Restore' (with the correct desired setting)

Step 2: Wait 3 minutes, relog into IPMI

Step 3: Power drain system

• Power off system
• Unplug all power cables from the system
• Press and hold the system power button for 30 seconds
• Re-plug all power cables and power system on

System will take a bit longer to boot from a completely power drained state, but the sensors should come back in their normal state.
