How to remove an AMD EPYC Processor:
Step 1: Unscrew CPU Hold-Down Frame
Unscrew CPU hold-down frame with a T20 screwdriver in 3-2-1 order.
Step 2: Lift CPU Guide Frame from Outer Latch Corners
(This is an informal method but better illustrates how to lift the CPU guide frame from under the latches.)
Step 3: Remove CPU
Remove CPU from guide frame using protruding tab then by the sides of the plastic CPU frame.
Be careful NOT to touch the bottom CPU contacts and avoid dropping the CPU, which could damage exposed motherboard CPU pins.
DO NOT leave motherboard CPU pins exposed for too long, as dust/debris may cause improper contact, leading to critical system failure (not POST on power). System RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) typically takes 3-5 weeks, depending on shipping and part availability.
If you are re-seating the CPU (uninstalling and then reinstalling to ensure secure contact between the CPU and motherboard CPU pins), check for any bent pins before reinstalling the CPU.
If you are preparing the motherboard for shipment, use a CPU tray cover, which is usually included in motherboard boxes pre-installed on the motherboard.
Bent pins + Installing CPU = pressed down bent CPU pins that can no longer be repaired.
Bent motherboard CPU pins typically lead to motherboard repair or replacement costs
